About
The Back Story
I am a pastor, frontline worker, team leader, manager and group facilitator with 20 years of experience supporting people in recovery from addiction.

At age 30 I was pastoring an evangelical church in Bristol, and was introduced to the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. Church was never the same after that. I was never the same. It was like a homecoming. I became a pastor to people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, and many I met from the rooms wanted to talk more about their "higher power" and to explore faith.

In my late 30's I was involved in the start of "Life Recovery Groups" - a cross church midweek home group for Christians and those exploring faith to meet. We met to strengthen recovery, deepen recovery and build community, and over the 13 years that ran we shared life and faith with over 100 individuals, and saw many lives changed.

From 2010 to 2025 I worked with inHope (Bristol) developing and running 'the Life course' - a 18 sessions life skills course for people in early recovery. It's aim was to build recovery capital and support a sustainable recovery journey. We have had 100s come to the course over the years, and it's reputation amongst the commissioned services and referral agencies was great (and they all knew we were Christian!).

That I guess scratches the surface... it is the headlines. But the reality is that each individual supported is the most important person at that moment, and every person who has walked (with God's help) the tough walk of recovery are the inspiration in my story.
